Description
Using the Child-Centered Play Therapy Progress Worksheet
Assessing progress in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) can be challenging when therapists seek to understand change at the level of the individual child rather than through standardized measures alone. This workshop introduces the Play Therapy Progress Worksheet, a practical observational tool designed to track meaningful changes in play behaviors across sessions. Participants will learn how to use behavioral continua to identify patterns of growth, stability, and variability in children’s play. Emphasis will be placed on individualized assessment, recognizing clinically significant movement over time, and using systematic observation to inform treatment planning, case conceptualization, and communication of therapeutic progress.
Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe the rationale for using behavioral continua to assess progress in Child-Centered Play Therapy.
- Identify the play therapy progress characteristics included in the Play Therapy Progress Worksheet and explain their clinical relevance.
- Rate children’s play behaviors along observational continua using session data and behavioral descriptions.
- Analyze patterns of change, consistency, and variability across multiple play therapy sessions.
- Interpret movement along behavioral continua within the context of each child’s unique therapeutic goals and developmental needs.
- Apply the Play Therapy Progress Worksheet to support case conceptualization, treatment planning, and documentation of therapeutic progress over time.
