Meet Cameron Curtis

Cameron is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (LPC-Associate) in the state of Texas, and a National Certified Counselor (NCC), under the supervision of Chelsea Yurkovich, Ph.D., LPC-S, RPT-S. Cameron holds a master’s degree in counseling with specialized training in play therapy from the University of North Texas, one of the top-ranked play therapy programs in the world. His education and experience include working with children, adolescents, college-aged students, adults, and parents through various mental health concerns within university clinics and school settings.

Cameron has experience using a trauma-informed approach when working with clients. Additionally, Cameron is passionate about providing culturally-responsive and strength-based services when facilitating activity, play, and talk therapy.

Outside of EmpathyWell, Cameron spends most of his time with his family and friends. He enjoys opportunities for experiential adventures. His self-care looks like spending time listening to music and eating amazing food.

Cameron's Counseling Approach

Cameron, using his person-centered, humanistic counseling approach, aims to facilitate a safe and nonjudgmental environment where children, adolescents, and adults can gain insight and self-acceptance to navigate various circumstances in their life. Cameron believes that the foundation for change in the counseling process stems from experiencing trust and empathic understanding in the therapeutic relationship. Through culturally responsive and strength-based methods, he will collaborate with each client to develop an environment where they feel supported in processing unique experiences and encouraged to honor their individuality. During the counseling process with children, Cameron values facilitating understanding of the child’s experience and strengthening the bond between parents and their children. The idea of processing life challenges can be overwhelming, but his work involves empowering each client to discover how utilizing their individual strengths can contribute to personal growth.
