This 40-hour program is intended to prepare Child-Centered Play Therapists to become Supervisors and Advanced Clinicians in Child-Centered Play Therapy. This program will take place over 8 months and involve educational curriculum instruction as well as direct supervision of CCPT child sessions and CCPT supervision sessions. Participants will learn supervision models, including development and discrimination theories, and how to apply them to play therapy supervision. Participants will learn how to facilitate growth and development of new play therapists specifically in CCPT. Each participant will receive supervision on their CCPT sessions and CCPT supervision sessions directly by Dr. Ray. Additionally, participants will grow in their depth and understanding of the process of CCPT. Participation is limited to 6 participants total in order to ensure that each participant receives individualized instruction and support.

Pre-Requisites and Requirements:

  1. Hold CCPT Level 1 Practitioner credential through UNT Center for Play Therapy or equivalent OR on track to receive CCPT Level 1 Practitioner credential in 2025.
  2. In United States, hold professional mental health license. In country outside of US, hold a mental health advanced degree or equivalent.
  3. Must be able to show video of at least 10 CCPT sessions facilitated by the participant.
  4. Must be able to show video of at least 5 Supervision of CCPT sessions.
  5. The primary language of instruction and supervision is English. However, subtitles on videos may be acceptable.
  6. Must complete assigned readings outside of the meeting times.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the program, participants will demonstrate understanding of

  1. Theoretical frameworks and models of clinical supervision that apply to CCPT.
  2. Roles and relationships related to clinical supervision of CCPT
  3. Assessment of supervisees’ developmental level and other relevant characteristics
  4. Evaluation, remediation, and gatekeeping in CCPT supervision
  5. Legal and ethical issues and responsibilities in CCPT supervision
  6. Ethical and culturally relevant strategies for conducting CCPT supervision
  7. Relational dynamics between therapist and child in CCPT
  8. Process of CCPT including theme identification, disruption events, and responding in difficult situations.
  9. Responding to challenges in CCPT cases and events.

Trainer:

Dee C. Ray, Ph.D., LPC-S, NCC, RPT-S is co-owner of the counseling practice, EmpathyWell, in Highland Village, TX where she facilitates play therapy, training, consultation, and supervision. Dr. Ray is Regents Emerita Professor in the Counseling Program and Director Emerita of the Center for Play Therapy at the University of North Texas.  Dr. Ray has published over 150 articles, chapters, and books in the field of play therapy, specializing in research specifically examining the process and effects of Child Centered Play Therapy.  Dr. Ray is author of Playful Education: Using Play Therapy Strategies to Elevate Your ClassroomA Therapist’s Guide to Development: The Extraordinarily Normal YearsAdvanced Play Therapy: Essential Conditions, Knowledge, and Skills for Child Practice, and co-author of Multicultural Play Therapy and Group Play Therapy. She is a founding board member and past president of the Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling, as well as past board chair of the Association for Play Therapy. She is an American Counseling Association Fellow, and two-time recipient of the Association for Play Therapy Outstanding Research Award, among many others.

Fees, CEs, and Participation:

This online and live training program is $2500. Payments can be made in 4 installments of $600 (Jan 16, Mar 6, May 29, and July 17). If paid in full by January 16, you can receive a 10% discount for a total of $2250 for the program.

This fee gets you 40 Non-Contact CE hours. EmpathyWell, PLLC is an Approved APT Provider: 22-674. Participants must be present for entirety of workshop in order to receive CE credits and full completion of the course. Participants must also complete an exam and evaluation after the workshop in order to receive the CE credits and full completion of the course. 

This course meets criteria for Supervision Educational Requirement and Supervision of Supervision Requirement for CCPT-Supervisor certification with UNT Center for Play Therapy. It also meets partial requirement for direct experience supervision for CCPT-Supervisor certification.

This course also meets criteria for 30 hours of clinical supervisor instruction for RPT-S credential and the criteria for CE requirements for RPT-S credential.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY:

Registration is final and a refund will not be processed. EmpathyWell reserves the right to cancel this web series in the event of unforeseen circumstances. If such occurs, EmpathyWell will attempt to notify registrants prior to the workshop and refund all registration, workshop, and fees. In all instances, the liability of EmpathyWell is limited to refunding such fees.
