Meet Amber-Lea Martinez

Amber-Lea is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate supervised by Leslie Jones, PhD, LPC-S, RPT-S and Dee Ray, PhD, LPC-S, NCC, RPT-S. Amber-Lea holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is a doctoral candidate in Counseling from the University of North Texas, indicating she has completed coursework for a doctoral degree to be conferred in Spring 2025. She has experience in a variety of counseling modalities, including play therapy, activity therapy, expressive arts counseling, and talk therapy, and works to provide each individual with the modality that best fits their developmental and therapeutic needs. Amber-Lea has also received training in Child-Centered Group Play Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Training, and psychoeducational assessments.

Amber-Lea is committed to creating warm and authentic relationships with the people who choose to join her in the counseling space. Amber-Lea enjoys working with individuals of all ages and has experience with a variety of concerns, including life transitions, trauma and abuse, anxiety and depression, and parenting difficulties. Amber-Lea specializes in working with foster and adoptive families and currently volunteers for A Home Within, a national non-profit organization that provides free counseling services to individuals who have experienced time in the foster care system. Amber-Lea is passionate about supporting children and families through their journeys as they work toward healing.

When not at the office, Amber-Lea likes going to dance classes, exploring new coffee shops, and attending (and trying not to sing along to) Broadway shows with her husband.

Amber-Lea's Counseling Approach

I approach counseling from a person-centered perspective. I truly believe that you have, within yourself, the ability to be your best self, and my role is to walk alongside you in your journey. I strive to create a warm, empathic, and accepting relationship within which you can feel safe to express and explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I trust in your ability to heal and grow at your own pace and in your own way; therefore, I place a strong emphasis on you as a person, rather than a specific problem. When working with children and teens, those beliefs hold true, and I emphasize working in collaboration with caregivers to create a village of support for the family as a whole.
