Child-Centered Play Therapy and Attachment Trauma
With Amber-Lea Martinez, PhD, LPC-Associate
Attachment trauma—or traumatic separation from primary caregivers—can result in deep-seated relational wounds for the children impacted. Children who have experienced attachment trauma often present with a wide array of unique clinical needs, including concerns related to inconsistent caregivers, attachment difficulties, and layered traumatic experiences. In this workshop, participants will explore the unique match between attachment trauma and child-centered play therapy, discuss CCPT adaptations and considerations, and reflect upon their role as a CCPT therapist when working with this population.
Objectives:
- Participants will identify at least 3 common challenges faced by children experiencing attachment trauma.
- Participants will demonstrate CCPT skills and attitudes.
- Participants will describe how the CCPT therapist can serve as an attachment figure.
- Participants will identify at least 2 ways that attachment trauma may show up in the play therapy space.
- Participants will articulate at least 3 clinical applications of CCPT when working with children experiencing attachment trauma.
- Participants will identify at least 2 ways to support caregivers of children who have experienced attachment trauma.
Speaker:
Amber-Lea Martinez, PhD, LPC-Associate is a counselor and counselor educator in the DFW area. Amber-Lea received both her master’s and her doctoral degrees from the University of North Texas, where she specialized in play therapy. Amber-Lea’s clinical and research interests include attachment and trauma, specifically with foster and adoptive families. Amber-Lea currently volunteers for A Home Within, a national non-profit organization that provides free counseling services to individuals who have experienced time in the foster care system.
Fees, CEs, and Participation
This online and live training is only $100 per participant. This fee gets you 3 Non-Contact CE hours. EmpathyWell, PLLC is an Approved APT Provider: 22-674. Participants must be present for entirety of workshop in order to receive CE credits and full completion of the course. Participants must also complete an exam and evaluation after the workshop in order to receive the CE credits and full completion of the course.
